Can Caralleu apartment

The intervention takes place in a building that is part of a group of row houses built in 1996. The plot on which each of the houses stands is essentially rectangular, with a 1:4 proportion, meaning that the depth of the plot is four times its width. This layout gives us an idea of the possibilities for interior distribution. A central core for vertical circulation, including a staircase and an elevator, divides the floor plan into two distinct areas: one facing southwest and the other facing northeast. The southwest facade faces the street, with a courtyard in between, while the northeast facade overlooks a pine forest.

The original program followed the typical layout for a house of this size, resulting in the compartmentalization of the space into relatively small rooms. A previous renovation had already grouped several rooms by demolishing partitions to create larger, more open spaces. This led to a large area on the ground floor that combined the kitchen and dining room, with the entrance hall effectively disappearing, leaving the guest toilet and laundry-ironing room on the rear facade. The first floor was similarly reconfigured with the same intention of creating a single, large, uncluttered space. Our intervention, following this initial renovation, focused on creating a new atmosphere on the first floor, where the living room, library, and study were located, as well as on redistributing the second and third floors, where the bedrooms were situated.

The design solution was not aimed at a major renovation but at achieving a significant change. The spaces we encountered had an outdated feel that did not reflect the character or lifestyle of the residents. Through the careful use of color, fabrics, ceramics, wood, and natural fibers for wall coverings, as well as carpets, parquet flooring, and rugs, along with a thoughtful selection of furniture and meticulous control of natural and artificial light, we achieved a transformation that marks a clear before and after. The result is the creation of bright, welcoming, and comfortable spaces that invite occupants to fully enjoy and live in them.

One aspect of this project that deserves praise is the satisfaction and enthusiasm with which the clients have lived in the house over the years.
