Fontanilles II House

This rural renovation transforms an old building—the result of haphazard addition —into a well- organized and cohesive home, while strictly adhering to the requirement of preserving the original perimeter and volume.

The project’s success lies in the natural way in which the new layout adapts to preexisting, immovable boundaries and in how the building has been integrated into its surroundings through pergolas and landscaping of the outdoor areas.

One of the keys to this integration into the landscape has been changing the orientation of the roofs so that they all have the same slope and orientation, a strategy that unifies the former chaotic volumes.

The architectural strategy takes advantage of the site’s topography to reduce the building’s visual impact and enhance the views.

To the north, the facade is partially buried, presenting a low-profile and very discreet appearance from the entrance to the lot..

At the opposite end, the south facade opens completely to the surroundings, offering an unobstructed panoramic view of the plain stretching from Fontanilles to the Bay of Roses.

To soften the presence of this large opening and protect it from the sun, a landscaped front has been designed using pergolas and outdoor porches, which, in turn, help to blur the boundaries between the building and nature.

The interior layout is seamlessly organized into two main areas: an open common area that unifies the living room, kitchen, and dining room into a single space, and a private area consisting of two bedrooms with their respective bathrooms.

The use of materials that age well is essential so that the structure becomes more beautiful over time.

From a distance, the building is barely noticeable; it is practically hidden among the existing vegetation.
