Jonqueres 18 apartment

Located on the 7th floor of Barcelona’s first skyscraper, designed in 1933 and constructed after the Spanish Civil War, the original office space has been renovated to restore its original residential use.

The renovation resulted in two apartments of 195 m² and 173 m², maintaining the geometry of the original units’ perimeter. Each apartment includes three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, and a generous living-dining area.

The building’s pillar-based structure allowed for a free distribution of the spaces, which differs significantly from the original office layout. Passages and distributors, as well as some rooms, have been removed, resulting in a much more fluid and modern distribution. The bedrooms and living-dining areas are oriented towards the exterior façade to take advantage of natural light and ventilation, while the bathrooms and kitchen are situated in the interior, with occasional access to a large central courtyard.

The partition walls dividing the spaces linked to the main façade are made of wood, rather than masonry or aluminum profile structures with plasterboard. This choice of materials and the meticulous execution of the partitions make a significant qualitative difference compared to other similar interventions in the city. The integration of glass in the upper parts of the partitions allows natural light from the façade to reach the more interior areas, contributing to a bright and open atmosphere in the renovated space.
